Obituary for William Guy Suter
William Guy Suter departed on June 26, 2020 in Barnwell SC.
The son of the late Otto G. Suter and Eva Haptonstall Suter, He was born in Middleport, Ohio on Easter Sunday, April 16,1922. After graduating from Middleport High School and Kettering University (GMI), he was employed by Allison Division of General Motors as a liaison engineer until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his service, he was in the retail trucking business in West Virginia before moving to South Carolina and being employed at the Savannah River Site.
He went on to operate several real estate and appraisal firms in the Barnwell area. Upon retirement, he became a certified master jeweler and continued making jewelry until his passing.
A Past Sovereign Master of the AMD Lodge in Orangeburg SC, he received his seventy year mason recognition from Harmony Masonic Lodge #17 of Barnwell ,SC. He was a member of the York and Scottish Rites.
He was a member of the Holy Apostles Anglican Church.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mildred Kneece Suter of Barnwell, SC; children, Martha Suter Roberts (David) of Salisbury, MD, Mary Suter Morin (Larry) of Portland TN and James T. Suter of Swansea, SC. Grandchildren, William Clay Roberts (Emily) of Parker , CO., Katherine Roberts Cronshaw (Josh) of Salisbury,MD., Myryea Edwards Ivey (Lane) of Mt Juliet, TN, Rion Edwards of Mt. Juliet, TN., William Suter of Madison, WI., Robert Suter of Darlington, SC., and Matthew Suter of Winter, WI. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held on June 29, at 10 am at the Holy Apostles Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Church of the Holy Apostles, P.O. Box 207, Barnwell, S C 29812. Social Distancing will be observed.
