Obituary for William Harley "Bill" Stewart
William Harley "Bill" Stewart, 88, passed away on April 26, 2014 at Hospice Place in Aiken. Born in Kline, SC he was the son of the late Robert Jack and Zelma Harley Stewart. Mr. Stewart attended Barnwell Public Schools and graduated from Newberry College. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific on the U.S.S Yorktown "The Fighting Lady". He completed a thirty - year career as field deputy with the South Carolina Employment Security Commission. He also owned and operated a thoroughbred horse farm that he dearly loved. He was a member of the Barnwell United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of the home, Anne Reynolds Stewart; one son, William Reynolds (Debbie) Stewart; one granddaughter, Rachael Canaday Stewart; and his beloved loyal caretaker of his horse farm, Herman Lee Johnson, Jr. His graveside service will be held in the Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery in Barnwell at 11:00AM on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
