Obituary for Leon John Wizorek
Leon John Wizorek, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital after struggling with COVID 19 with family at his side. He was born in Detroit Michigan on January 1, 1939 the son of the late John and Veronica “Alma” (Gosztyla) Wizorek. In North Olmstead Ohio, on May 15, 1965, he married his wife of fifty-six years, Carol (Kodger) Wizorek, who survives.
Leon grew up in Saginaw Michigan where he graduated high school. He served in the US Navy from 1960-1964 when he was honorably discharged. He studied electrical engineering at Tri-State College in Angola Indiana graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Wichita State University. He was also a certified plant engineer.
Leon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an avid supporter and area director of the local special Olympics. He was an active member of his church, a 4th degree Knight and member of the color guard in the Knights of Columbus. He had a contagious laugh, huge heart and truly found joy in the joy of others. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by 4 sons: Larry, John, Joe, and Matt and 2 daughters: Sandy Wizorek, and Christina Bailey. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by: a son, Donald Wizorek, Grandson Norman Padgett and great grandson Leo Cummings.
A rosary and viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell, South Carolina at 6:00PM. There will be a funeral Mass on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00AM at St Andrews Catholic Church Barnwell, South Carolina followed by a grave side service in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery.
